PUPILS and staff at Cambo First School are celebrating after receiving a prestigious Gold Artsmark Award.

Artsmark is the creative quality standard for schools, accredited by Arts Council England. The award provides a framework for teachers to plan, develop and evaluate arts, culture and creativity across the curriculum.

In achieving the award, Cambo First School developed their arts and culture provision to achieve a broad and balanced curriculum where ideas from pupils was central. This was achieved by creating an overall plan that was committed to and delivered across the whole school.

Through Artsmark, Cambo First School will continue to incorporate art and culture into every pupil’s life, learning, knowledge and understanding, helping them to build skills, resilience, confidence and character.

Headteacher, Paula Cummings said: “We’re extremely proud of achieving the award. We are committed to delivering a high quality art and cultural education and we look forward to continuing to grow.”

Melanie Carter, area manager of Culture Bridge North-East said: “It’s fantastic to see that so many school’s are recognising the prestige and importance of this award in supporting an arts curriculum.”
