A NEW discount foods store is the latest addition to Prudhoe’s high street.
Heron Foods opened on the former premises of The Original Factory Shop on Monday, following the closure of the store at the end of last year.
The chain sells frozen food as well as brand-named stock at discount prices.
Representatives from the nearby Relate charity shop cut the ribbon to officially open the store, and were presented with a £250 cheque as a donation, while county councillor Gordon Stewart and Prudhoe’s mayor Tracy Gilmore were also in attendance.
The new store will bring an employment boost of 17 new jobs to the town. Meanwhile Northumberland County Council officers have approved planning permission for six one-bedroom flats in the space above the shop.
