PEOPLE in west Northumberland who are passionate about their local NHS are being encouraged to become more involved by standing for election as a public governor.

There are two vacancies for public governors at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in the Hexham constituency.

Alan Richardson, chairman of Northumbria Healthcare, said: “Our public governors are the heartbeat of their local NHS and play a hugely important role in our trust. They are the voice of local people and forge links with the many and varied local communities we serve. They help us to shape our priorities and develop local health care services.”

Duties of a public governor include holding non-executive directors to account for the performance of the board, reviewing the annual accounts and report and representing the interest of the public in governance meetings.

The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, May 22. To be in the running, people must first be a member of Northumbria Healthcare, which can be done through an online application form.

Nomination forms are available from Electoral Reform Service.
