NEW recruits have been signed up to provide tourists with expert local knowledge.

A total of 12 people have put their names forward to be a town host in Hexham to support the welcome to visitors.

The scheme, launched by Hexham Community Partnership, will mean the hosts are on hand at the many events around town throughout the year, ensuring people feel at home during their visit.

The hosts have all taken part in an awards for excellence customer service training day and completed a local area knowledge day with a Blue Badge guide.

Jackie Green is one of the 12 volunteers, and she said: “We’ve got such a lovely town and I think by being a host you can bring that to the fore.

“It’s lovely to meet the public. People are my passion and it’s wonderful to talk to visitors and residents.”

Working in pairs, the hosts will next be out in force at Hexham Gathering on May 25.
