A BOMB disposal team was called to Hexham after a discovery at Tyne Green.
Police received the report at 2.50pm on Wednesday after a member of the public discovered an artillery shell on the banks of the River Tyne at Tyne Green, Hexham.
Northumbria Police said the artillery shell was safely removed by a Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team on Thursday, and taken to Catterick Garrison.
The area around Hexham Rowing Club and Queen Elizabeth High School Rowing Club had been cordoned off by police but the cordon was stood down at around 7pm.
