SHOPPERS at Hexham's Marks and Spencer food store may have noticed some familiar voices at the checkout.

M&S has launched its first ever "self-checkout takeover", with famous faces from Britain's Got Talent all recording voiceovers.

Presenters Ant and Dec and judges Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon have each recorded 40 separate voiceovers that will be heard by customers at random while they scan their shopping at the self-checkout tills, covering everything from “please scan your first item” to “please take your change”.

Director of marketing at M&S, Sharry Cramond, said: "We are so excited to have the BGT presenters and judges on board for the first ever checkout takeover.

"It was brilliant fun recording with them and we can’t wait to see our customers’ reactions when they hear their favourite presenters and judges telling them what to do - from how to weigh their fruit to where to collect their change - Ant & Dec, Alesha and Amanda have it all covered.”

M&S expects the voices to be heard 10 million times between April 8 and June 3. The takeover forms part of Marks and Spencer Food's sponsorship of the ITV talent show.
