THREE Tynedale residents have appeared in court after travelling on the Tyne Valley railway line without paying a fare.

Gemma Ridley (25) of Greenholme Road, Haltwhistle, and Tom Smith (26) of Chareway, Hexham, both saw their cases proved in absence on Friday.

Ridley was ordered to pay a fine of £60, £6.70 compensation, and costs of £150.

She had tom between Hexham and Haltwhistle without paying the fare of £6.70 on September 4 2018.

Smith was also fined £60, and ordered to pay £4 compensation and costs of £150.

He travelled between Blaydon and Prudhoe stations on October 18 2018 without paying his £4 fare.

Michael Young (30) of Castle Road, Prudhoe, appeared in court on the same day, and entered no plea.

However, his case was adjourned until May 23 on request of the prosecution.

It is alleged Young travelled on the railway on September 25 2018 without paying his fare of £5.40. His journey was not specified.
