PUPILS at Humshaugh First School were covered in colour as they took part in a fund-raising fun run last Thursday.

The school was raising money on behalf of the Friends of Humshaugh Parents and Teachers Association, and invited all pupils to seek out sponsorship donations.

The fun run coincided with Holi, a festival celebrated in India and Nepal to mark the first day of spring where people throw coloured powders over each other.

And although Northumberland is on the other side of the world, pupils and teachers at Humshaugh hosted their own festival on the school sports field as runners donned plain white t-shirts and outlandish outfits for greater effect.

Vicky Cargill, chairwoman of Friends of Humshaugh, helped organise the event and praised the local community for their involvement.

“We’ve had a great response from all the pupils and parents with support and donations for the run,” she said.

“We’re also really grateful to Walwick Hall Hotel and the playing field trust for all their help. The money raised goes a long way not just for the school but also the wider community.”

Jude Long, headteacher at Humshaugh First School, added: “At the moment, we’re raising funds for a set of Spheros – an interactive educational tool for advanced learning.

“Days like today are an example of how we can make fund-raising fun. It’s great to see all the pupils, teachers and trustees embrace the theme and have fun.”
