CHILDREN at a Tynedale school have been congratulated on their reading success by an award-winning author.
Mowden Hall School has been awarded Champion School status by the Accelerated Reader programme, led by educational company Renaissance.
The programme gives teachers the information they need to monitor students’ reading and make decisions to guide their future learning.
A comprehensive set of reports reveals how much a student has been reading, at what level of complexity, and how well they have understood what they have read.
Vocabulary growth and literacy skills are also measured, giving teachers insight into how well students have responded to reading schemes and class instruction.
To receive the champion status the school had to closely track key data points set by the Accelerated Reader programme and staff have been working to achieve the recognition for the school for two years.
The celebrate the achievement, North-East author LJ Ross, who wrote the bestselling suspense thrillers of the DCI Ryan series, came along to the school to present the award.
