A TYNEDALE nursery building has been shortlisted for a regional architectural award.
Meadows Nursery, at Nafferton Farm near Stocksfield, is one of seven buildings on the shortlist for the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) North-East 2019 awards.
Architects MailenDesign re-modelled a greenfield agricultural site to create nursery provision for 70 children.
It was shortlisted along with the Armstrong Building at Newcastle University, the Beacon of Light facility in Sunderland, Greatham Creek Seal and Bird Hides in Middlesborough, Janet Nash House in Durham, Northumbria University School of Architecture and Spanish City in Whitley Bay.
RIBA North-East regional director, Amanda Khan, welcomed the news: “The North-East shortlist showcases a range of schemes, from a Seal and Bird Hide in Middlesbrough to a children’s day nursery in Northumberland. The diversity of schemes selected, including three by regionally-based practices, demonstrates the breadth of high-quality architecture that this region has to offer.”
The winner will be announced at an awards event at Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle on Thursday, May 16.
Regional award winners will be considered for a RIBA national award.
