YOUNG choristers are being invited to open days next week.
Hexham Abbey Choir is holding open evenings for its boys’ and girls’ choirs next Wednesday and Thursday.
Any boy interested in joining the choir can attend the Abbey on Wednesday between 4.30pm and 7.40pm, with girls invited along to a similar event the following evening between 4.50pm and 7.30pm.
The boys’ open evening will start with an organ demonstration with the possibility of joining in playing, and will include singing, rehearsing in robes, evensong and a visit to the Abbey crypt. There is a similar schedule for the girls’ evening, although the timings have been changed.
The Abbey’s director of music, Michael Haynes, was hopeful of attracting more members. He said: “Come along and have a go. No previous experience of singing or of church is required.”
