PLANS for a 25m-high phone mast in Greenhaugh have been given the go-ahead despite opposition from local residents.

The proposal on land at Brownknowe Field, Greenhaugh is for a 25m-high mast with three antennas and two transmission dishes.

The mast is needed to provide 4G coverage to the area for the emergency services on roads in the North Tyne. Local resident, Dorothy Clark said: “ I am horrified at the height and location of it. The 13 other earmarked sites were rejected but none came close to any properties unlike this one.”

Northumberland National Park Authority which agreed to the plans said the other sites didn’t provide the desired coverage.
