A STUDENT has written his name into a prestigious philosophy journal.
Alex James (18), of Hexham, won the Jack Grassby Prize in Public Philosophy 2018 and will see his essay entitled ‘What are philosophers trying to achieve?’ published in The Philosopher as a result.
The competition was run by Bigg Books and challenged readers of the journal to write the most thought-provoking philosophy essay.
The sixth form student at the town’s Queen Elizabeth High School impressed judges with a stand-out entry to be crowned the winner of the North-East students in Years 12 and 13 category.
He said: “It was quite unexpected but a lovely experience to win and it has set me up for future as I want study history and philosophy at university.
“One of the professors judging the competition said my essay was head and shoulders above the rest.”
