MOTORISTS have been left stumped by a new look for a roundabout on the A69.
Trees which adorned the Bridge End roundabout at Hexham were felled last week, giving the road a completely different look.
Hexham resident Colin Richardson said: “For anybody coming up the sliproads, the line of sight would not have been affected at all and I can see no logical reason why the trees would have been felled.”
Highways England revealed the felling was part of work to create an underpass at the roundabout as part of a multi-million pound to improve traffic flow on the A69.
A spokesman said: “We need to divert a number of utilities and clear some of the vegetation, however we will be planting more trees and shrubs along the road once we have finished.”
