HEXHAM'S MP is urging people to attend one of the local events where they can have their say on the Northumberland Local Plan.

In this final six weeks of consultation, before the plan is submitted to Government in May, Northumberland County Council has arranged a total of 23 events - with 14 still to go.

At this stage in the consultation, the council has to ask specific questions. These are around whether the plan is ‘sound’, whether it is legal, whether it is an appropriate strategy and whether the council has worked with neighbouring authorities and other organisations to address strategic issues.

Hexham's MP Guy Opperman has encouraged local residents to get involved and have their say.

He recently attended the Prudhoe drop-in session with local county councillors Gordon Stewart and Ken Stow.

He said: “I want everyone to get involved and have their say on the new local plan through the series of community engagement events being held by the county council. Make sure your voice is heard."

Events in Tynedale still to take place over the coming weeks are:

  • Haydon Bridge - Wednesday, February 20 from 2pm to 7pm at the community centre on Ratcliffe Road.
  • Bellingham - Wednesday, February 20 from 2pm to 7pm, in the town hall.
  • Ponteland - Tuesday, February 26 from 2pm to 7pm in the Memorial Hall on Darras Road.
  • Haltwhistle - Saturday, March 2 from 10am to 3pm in the library.
  • Corbridge - Thursday, March 7 from 2pm to 7pm in the parish hall on St Helen’s Street.
