A MOTORIST has been banned from driving for 26 months after being caught driving more than three times over the legal alcohol limit.

Robert Shaw (61) of Hardriding House, Bardon Mill, appeared at South East Northumberland Magistrates Court on Thursday. He faced one charge of driving without due care and attention, and one charge of driving when his alcohol level was above the legal limit.

The charges related to an incident on January 11, when Shaw had 111mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mg. Shaw pleaded guilty to the charges, and was handed a 26-month driving ban along with a community order.

He was also fined £400, and ordered to pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £85.
