RAIL services returned to normal on Thursday afternoon after a car slid onto the railway track at Haltwhistle due to icy conditions.
A spokeswoman from British Transport Police said officers were called to the track at around 9.20am.
British Transport Police and Northumbria Police officers attended the scene and the car was recovered. There were no reported injuries.
Replacement buses were running between Hexham and Carlisle in both directions.
National Rail warned trains were returning to normal but may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised.
