A COUNCILLOR has raised concerns about speeding vehicles on a Prudhoe road.

County councillor for Prudhoe South, Coun. Gordon Stewart, said residents had raised concerns about the speed of vehicles travelling along Moor Road, both on the recently relaid road and also on the country roads beyond Ferndene Hospital.

“I am aware of a vehicle being severely damaged after the driver apparently lost control on the country road section,” he said.

Northumbria Police confirmed that on Monday, January 21, an off-duty officer reported a damaged vehicle on Moor Road, but there was no suggestion it had been speeding.

A spokeswoman for the force said the owner of the vehicle had skidded on ice and was visited by officers.

She added: “No one was injured and the car was later removed.

“There was no further police action.”

But Coun. Stewart said he had received complaints about speeding on the road.

He said: “Residents have raised concerns with me about the speed of vehicles travelling along Moor Road Prudhoe, both on the recently relaid road and also on the country roads beyond Ferndene Hospital.”

He said he had been in contact with police asked that additional attention be given to the area.
