TOUR guides are being sought to offer visitors a warm Northumberland welcome.

Hexham Community Partnership has put a call out for volunteer town hosts to improve the visitor welcome in Hexham.

The volunteers will provide visitors with information and guidance to help them enjoy the events the town holds each year, in addition to being available on market days and key dates throughout holiday periods.

Working in pairs, the guides will aim to ensure visitors have a comfortable, enjoyable and memorable visit to Hexham.

Volunteers are asked to be friendly and outgoing, happy to work on their feet and be outdoors no matter what the weather. They also need to be over the age of 18 and can work as part of a team.

Rachel Ladd, the partnership’s communications and tourism officer, said: “Becoming a volunteer is a great way to learn new skills and meet new people, and being a town host will put you at the heart of Hexham’s events.”

Volunteers must be available to work two days a year and be able to attend two full days of training.

Interest in becoming a town host needs to be registered by Monday and the official launch date of the scheme is scheduled for Saturday, April 27. People should contact rachel@hexhamcommunity.net or call (01434) 622796 to express an interest.
