FOUR long-serving members of Wylam Institute have stepped down after a combined total of more than 100 years service.

The position of Holding Trustee at the institute has existed since it was built in 1896, but changes in charity law, the requirement to register the institute’s land with the Land Registry and for the Charity Commission to take over responsibility of holding the property, mean the position no longer exists.

At a small gathering at the institute last week the committee recognised the work of trustees, Ken John Chris Thompson, Pat Buckle and Lynne Petrie, who are stepping down from their roles.

Ken and Chris have both served 31 years, while Pat had held the position for 24 years and Lynne for 19 years.

The four were acknowledged for giving their time to the institute and providing support, advice and practical help.
