A 28-year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital after a crash on the A69 on Friday evening.

The driver of a blue BMW 320 car, of Carlisle, left the road and collided with trees on the road's verge at around 3.50pm on January 11 between Gilsland and Low Row.

Cumbria Police said: "The driver of the BMW 320, a 28-year-old man from Carlisle, was taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary where he is described as being in a serious condition. His family have been notified."

The Great North Air Ambulance Service and firefighters from both Cumbria and Northumberland were called to the scene.

Police are appealing for anybody who may have seen the man's car as it travelled westbound on the A69, or anybody who may have relevant dashcam footage, to get in touch on 101 and ask for PC 2326 Fawkes, quoting log number 153 of January 11.
