CHILDREN who spent Christmas in hospital received treats from kindhearted people in the Tyne Valley.

Haydon Bridge resident Cheryl Hutchinson, who runs CH Events, held numerous fund-raising craft and beauty fairs in the lead-up to Christmas and asked for people to donate items to go in ‘blessing bags’ to give to Tiny Lives Trust. which supports premature and sick newborn babies and their families at the neonatal unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle.

With local businesses also donating, a total of £1,200 for the charity was raised to purchase items such as bed socks, hand cream, sweets, children’s books and toiletry items for the blessing bags. In total, 36 bags were made up.

Cheryl decided to raise funds for the charity after her daughter Chloe was born at the unit nearly seven weeks prematurely.
