YOUNG children showed their Christmas spirit by making gifts for elderly residents.

Children at St Mary’s Nursery after-school club, in Hexham, spent eight weeks making presents for residents at the town’s Carntyne Care Home.

The idea came from Jake Liddle (7) and Amelia Simpson (6) who wanted to spread some Christmas cheer.

They, and other members of the club, often walk past the care home on their way to school or church.

With thanks to a donation of items from Hexham Tesco, the children made a range of gifts from calendars, cakes, bird feeders, coasters and Christmas cards.

The children spent time chatting with the residents as they presented the gifts.
