A SIGN on the shop window says ‘Someone couldn’t wait ‘til Christmas’.

It is a tongue-in-cheek message from the owner of Kirsty Taylor Goldsmiths, on Main Street, Corbridge, after her jewellers was targeted by burglars in the build-up to Christmas.

At 8.20pm on Sunday, December 2, at 8.20pm, police received a report of a burglary at the store.

Burglars smashed the window and left with two watches and a necklace.

Kirsty Taylor said: “The pieces are very unique and unusual so I would guess somebody is getting nice presents for Christmas, as I don’t think they’d be able to sell them on.

“It was the night before the late night shopping event which brings thousands into the village, so we tried to dress the window up. It’s so frustrating that people think they can break in and take what doesn’t belong to them.”
