HEXHAM Abbey has been turned orange to raise awareness of domestic abuse.
At a time when Hexham-based Northumberland Domestic Abuse Service (NDAS) is campaigning to save its service, the organisation has teamed up with Soroptimist International Tynedale and the Abbey as part of the UN Women’s global campaign, entitled ‘Orange the World’.
Starting on November 25 and running until December 10, the lights outside the Abbey will be turned orange. In addition to the lighting project, local soroptimists, the team at NDAS and members of Weardale Crafting Community have knitted ‘worry monsters’ for children who have abusive family members.
