MORE than 10,000 people squeezed into the centre of Corbridge to mark the start of the festive season.
The village’s late night shopping event on Monday brought in larger than usual crowds, with in excess of 12,000 people estimated to have visited the area.
The festivities were kick-started over the weekend period with the annual Christmas tree festival in St Andrew’s Church.
A record number of 96 trees were entered in the competition, with many community groups, schools and businesses getting involved by creating eye-catching entries which featured everything from shoes, dentures, peacock feathers and fruit and veg.
