HEAVY rain did not deter families in Prudhoe from heading out to the annual Christmas lights switch-on event.

Entertainment including visitors Mickey and Minnie Mouse and party games by Mister Disco Man kept spirits up despite the weather.

And children from three local schools, Adderlane Academy, Mickley First School and Prudhoe Castle First School, took to the stage with their singing in the build up to the switch being flipped.

The town was lit up at 6.30pm, with the honour taken on by local children Kian Musgrove and Amelia Marron, who were both praised for their bravery having both overcome cancer.

Friday was also the first day of Prudhoe’s Christmas Tree Festival, where trees decorated by various groups were put on display in Prudhoe Parish Hall and Prudhoe Methodist Church in support of Age UK.
