A 12-feet-high snowman, built in February 1978 on the car park at the Anchor Inn at Whittonstall, took 10 children two days to build, with a little help from the grown-ups, sporting a five-gallon oil drum for a hat, Christmas tree branches for hair and beer keg tops for eyes, nose, mouth and buttons.
