TWO teenagers have won the chance to sing live at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena.

Sixteen-year-old Harry Weatherhead, from Stocksfield, and 15-year-old Harriet Hobrough from Corbridge came first and second respectively in the age 13-16 category of the Unstoppable UK singing competition last month, with just one point separating the two.

The two singers, who both attend Queen Elizabeth High School, are both pupils at Vocal Ovation in Mickley, taught by Julie Miles and have sung together in the past as duo H2H.

The crowd of 10,000 expected at the arena marks their biggest performance by far.

The competition was organised by Newcastle based singer Channy Thompson, who will become the first unsigned solo artist to headline an arena gig.

Channy was searching for talent to perform at her ‘Unstoppable concert’ on Monday, December 17, with each singer getting the chance to perform one song at the gig.

Harry said: “I wasn’t expecting to win. There were so many amazing singers in the competition.”

Harriet added: “I’m really, really pleased, it was quite unexpected.

“Channy has tried quite hard to get places for first, second and third to sing at the event.

“I’m not going to lie, I’m quite nervous about it, but I’m excited too. It’s a great opportunity.”

The Unstoppable concert has been organised in conjunction with charity NE Youth. Channy, who is the young ambassador for NE Youth, is donating 50 per cent of the profits to the charity.

In addition, a ticket matching policy has been created, where every ticket purchased by a school will see a ticket made available to a child known to the charity who may not get to experience a concert.
