A WORKER at a Hexham takeaway has been working illegally, immigration enforcement officers have revealed.

A visit to Amigo Food Court, on Priestpopple, last Friday at 5.30pm revealed a 37-year-old man from Iran had entered the country illegally and was not permitted to work in England. He must now report to Immigration Enforcement while his case was ongoing.

The business was served with a referral notice warning that a financial penalty of up to £20,000 will be imposed unless the employer can demonstrate that appropriate right-to-work document checks were carried out, such as seeing a passport or Home Office document confirming permission to work.
