A FINAL push has been launched for shoeboxes as part of the district’s involvement with Operation Christmas Child.

The Tynedale branch of the charity, which sends boxes of gifts to needy children living in Africa and Eastern Europe, will stop collecting on Tuesday.

Anyone wishing to donate boxes can visit drop-off points at Tesco, Croft and Graves and The Cedar Tree, in Hexham, at Prudhoe East Youth Centre or The Gift Shop in Allendale.

Margaret Penney, the volunteer coordinator for Tynedale, said: “We meet drivers who personally deliver the boxes to the children and we get such wonderful feedback. For many children, these will be the first gifts they receive and the impact of getting presents can be life-changing.”

This will be the final year toothpaste and sweets will be accepted.
