A DONATION to a village school will act as an everlasting tribute for an entire community.
Whittonstall Parish Council gifted the village’s first school a hand-carved bench commemorating the centenary of the end of the First World War.
When not in use by pupils, it can be used by local residents, as the field where it sits is shared with the community.
The school’s acting headteacher Kelly Howe said: “It is a nice, community-spirited act and it can be used by the community after the children use it during the day. It has been installed next to a pond, so it is will be a nice spot for reflection.
“The children have learned about the war, and it is also important to reflect on the future and how it is over to our generation to make things positive.”
