A COLLISON on the A68 at Colwell last night left three people in hospital.

Police were called to a crash at 5.15pm involving two cars at the cross roads junction of the A68, A6079 and B6342 at Colwell.

The North East Ambulance Service dispatched two double crewed ambulances, an officer and a trauma paramedic and transported three people to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. 

Police said their injuries were serious but non-life threataning. 

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "The road was closed for more than two hours to allow for recovery of the vehicles."

Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact police on 101.

Meanwhile, at 5.40pm the A69 eastbound lane between Hexham and Styford was closed after a crash involving two cars.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "Officers attended the scene but nobody was believed to have suffered any injuries."
