TWO community paramedics operating in the Tyne Valley have been rewarded for their long service to the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS).

Owen Byrne, of Haltwhistle, and Peter Leach, of Bellingham, have worked for the ambulance service for a combined total of 55 years – Mr Byrne for 30 and Mr Leach for 25.

In honour of their service, they received certificates at the NEAS NHS Foundation Trust’s Beyond the Call of Duty Awards.

NEAS chief executive Yvonne Ormston said: “We know working for North East Ambulance Service is more than just a job for our employees, proven by the length of service we celebrate every year at our Beyond the Call of Duty Awards.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Peter and Owen for their service on behalf of their colleagues and patients.”
