DINERS at an afternoon tea tucked in to raise more than £4,000 for a cancer charity.

Saks Hexham invited local businesses to take part in the fund-raising event at Matfen Hall, which raised a total of £4,250 for the Eve Appeal, a gynaecological cancer research charity.

The event saw 13 businesses host market stalls, with local A capella group Off The Wall providing the musical accompaniment.

In addition, there was a raffle, guess the weight of the cake competition and a lucky dip.

Following this, 100 people took their seats in the hall’s grand terrace for afternoon tea and a stand-up comedy routine from loyal customer Patricia Hodgson OBE.

Magician Mike Lee also visited each table.

Guests then stayed on to socialise and do some more shopping.

Shannon Currah, of Saks Hexham, said: “The event was a huge success and everyone had a great time.

“In total, we raised £4,253.80.

“Our huge thanks go to everyone involved.

“We couldn’t have done it without the support of our amazing customers and the stallholders who were there on the day.”
