A PRUDHOE woman has shed her locks in a bid to raise money for a charity close to her heart.

Charlie Walton headed to Front Street Barbers in Prudhoe on Saturday to have her long pink hair shaved off to a number one all over to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“Me and my partner both lost our dads to cancer and my auntie is going through cancer at the moment,” explained Charlie, who is 33.

“It’s all over the place – so many people are dealing with it. And it’s good to know that the money I have raised will help children and adults going through chemo.”

Charlie raised £235 for the charity by encouraging family and friends to donate, and was videoed as she went through the daunting shave.

“It still feels weird and I get cold really quick, but it’s worth it to know the money raised will go to help somebody else,” she said.

“One of my cousins said it was a lovely way of being able to explain it to her children and for them to understand about people dealing with illnesses.

“It was a really good learning curve for them to realise you don’t have to do major things to get good results and help other people.”
