FOR 25 years of voluntary service to charity, a Prudhoe woman received a special invite to meet HRH the Prince of Wales.

St Oswald’s Hospice volunteer Sonia Taylor was among the crowds at Alnwick Garden as Prince Charles attended a special tea party during his recent two-day tour of Northumberland.

Sonia was invited to the event by Bryony Gibson, the vice Lord-Lieutenant for Northumberland, after reading about her volunteering at St Oswald’s in the Hexham Courant. She currently works at the hospice’s Blaydon shop.

She said: “I was very pleased to represent St Oswald’s at the event alongside my good friend Paul Morrison who accompanied me.

“On the day, we were honoured by the attendance of HRH Prince Charles, who was mingling with the other guests. When I started volunteering with the hospice, my aunt was working there and wanted someone to help her with tasks. I never dreamed it would lead to me meeting Prince Charles!”
