THE North Coast Five Hundred bike ride around the rugged coastline of northern Scotland was all the harder for Sam Webster, coming as it did after a rollercoaster of a year during which he’d been treated for a brain tumour.
But with the support of three friends, he’s done it - in aid of Hexham-based charity Josie’s Dragonfly Trust, which helps terminally-ill young people achieve a dream.
Sam, son of Tony and Kathy White-Webster, head-teacher and teacher respectively at Hexham’s Queen Elizabeth High School before they retired, said he’d been worried before he set out. He said: “A year of radiotherapy and chemotherapy has really weakened my body. I get tired very easily and am still suffering from extreme nausea.”
But the four friends did indeed complete their week-long ride at the weekend and beat their £5,000 Justgiving target by £600.
