I WAS really shocked to read the biased and basically inaccurate headline, ‘Thumping victory for Tories etc’ (Courant, May 15).
This mimics the worst excesses of the right-wing national press, during the election campaign, with their endless blaming of the Labour Party for the 2010 recession.
A closer look at the details you provide, reveals that 47 per cent of the people in our constituency did not vote for Mr Opperman. Many would say it’s an almost 50/50 result. And what about the other 30 per cent who, to their endless shame, chose not to vote at all!?
We can only guess at the results, of course, but at the very best, all we have here is a ‘narrow victory’.
At least it’s not as ‘narrow’ as the national picture, where two-thirds of the voters, almost 70 per cent, did not vote for the Tories, but here we are stuck with them for another five years, despite such a vast majority voting against them.
There are some absolute truths, regarding these things – clear factual information.
I feel the Courant has failed in its clear duty towards its readers, by using such biased headlines. Please try harder in future.
