Constructed in 1839, the former workhouse in Dean Street accommodated up to 300 of the town’s poor at a time.
It was taken over by the HMC Group in 2004 which used much of the Victorian site as a car park and leased out the buildings to businesses.
But there have been complaints about the condition of the site over the years.
And just a few weeks ago, residents whose homes overlook the old workhouse complained to MP Guy Opperman that the property and grounds had deteriorated to a dangerous extent.
Now the property has been put on the market by HMC Group. Estate agent Bradley Hall has confirmed it was marketing the property but no details were available.
