Following a review, the Office of Communications (Ofcom) has declared that the nation’s universal postal service is in a good state of financial health.
The news has been welcomed by the Countryside Alliance, which had been concerned that services in remote areas could be under threat.
The alliance had been concerned that increased competition within the postal market could have a negative impact on homes and businesses in rural areas.
But under the universal service, Royal Mail must deliver to every address in the UK, six days a week, at a uniform price.
