HAVING read the Mayor of Hexham's concern about messy Hexham ( Courant , June 10) I would like to add my agreement to this.
My husband and I do a lot of walking and have noticed how untidy Hexham has become.
There are housing estates with weeds growing in between the pavements, uncut hedges that overhang public paths making them even more narrow than they already are.
Lots of litter and plastic dog bags lie all over, the pavements uneven and dangerous in places.
What has happened to this beautiful market town? Hexham is a town steeped in history, with a famous Abbey, the rich heritage of the Roman Wall and many other attractions which bring visitors from far and wide.
Hexham needs work to make itself attractive, with money spent on basic cleaning and maintenance of public and housing estates
Finally, we need a tourist information centre which visitors can find, not a poor substitute in the library.
MARGERY BURGESS,
Hexham
