AN A68 crash which saw three people taken to hospital with serious injuries has sparked a police appeal for witnesses.

The two cars collided near Bellingham at Green Rigg Crossroads at 4.25pm on Sunday, December 4.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "A silver Hyundai Tuscon vehicle was travelling from Bellingham to the junction with the A68 and turned right to travel south on the A68 when a white Peugeot 207 car was travelling north, and for reasons yet to be established they collided.

"The two occupants of the Hyundai, the 83-year-old male driver and a woman aged 82 received serious injuries and are detained in the RVI.

"The sole occupant of the Peugeot, a 35-year-old woman driver, suffered serious leg injuries and is also detained at the RVI."

The condition of all of those injured is described as poorly but stable.

The road was closed for three and a half hours to enable the injured to be dealt with and the scene of the collision to be examined.

Police are appealing for witnesses, and anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference 801 04/12/16.
