FOLLOWING the Grenfell Tower tragedy in London, Northumberland Fire and Rescue has moved to reassure that there are no concerns at properties in the county.
Paul Hedley, chief fire officer with Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, attended a meeting of Tynedale local area committee on Tuesday.
Speaking to councillors, he said: “Since the events we have worked incredibly hard to identify any premises which might cause a risk. Fortunately, we haven’t found any.
“But there are 600 to 700 properties we want to get to and do an audit on.”
Coun. Gordon Stewart, from Prudhoe, who chaired the meeting, asked for reassurances that there were no high-storey blocks in Northumberland.
“There are no high-storey blocks,” confirmed Mr Hedley.
“We do have residential multi-storey premises of up to four storeys and they have been the top of the priority for a proper fire inspection, especially if they have got external cladding.”
