Runners basked in the sunshine as 250 people took part in this year’s fund-raising event at Tynedale Rugby Club on Sunday.
Around £2,000 was raised as fund-raisers ran one or three miles, whilst splashing themselves from head to toe in colour along the way.
Toddlers and grandparents took part in the run, which raised money for young people’s charity Josie’s Dragonfly Trust and aims to reflect the charity’s tagline ‘Brightening the lives of children and young adults.’
Jen Lapping, from organisers Jog on the Tyne, said: “We wanted to make it a family event and encourage children to take part.
“The colour makes the children almost forget they are running, and instead can enjoy covering themselves in colour.”
This year was the fourth run organised by Jog on the Tyne – a friendly and inclusive running group that runs sessions at Hexham’s Wentworth Leisure Centre and leads groups of joggers around the town. And plans are already under way for next year’s fifth anniversary celebrations.
Josie’s Dragonfly Trust promotes the importance of happy memories for those with limited time. Young cancer patients across the country are given cash gifts or granted dragonfly dreams to help families create lasting memories together.
