HEXHAM'S Wentworth Café has become the latest business in the town to be targeted by burglars.

A glass panel on the building's door was smashed by the offender in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The offender stole a cash drawer from the café before leaving the scene. Police are now appealing for information.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "At around 5am on Wednesday, police received a report of windows damaged at Wentworth Café in Hexham.

"Officers attended the scene where it appeared a burglary had taken place.

"It is believed that the offender gained entry by smashing the glass panel of the front door before stealing a cash drawer from the premises. The offender has then left the scene.

"The offence is thought to have taken place at around 3am of the same day.

"Inquiries are currently ongoing and anyone with information should contact police by calling 101 quoting log 141 01/08/18."

The burglary comes after three Hexham businesses were targeted in less than 48 hours earlier this week.

Zanzi Turkish Barbers, Mole Country Stores and Tynedale Golf Club were all targeted between Monday and Tuesday.
