AN air ambulance was called to Haltwhistle on Wednesday after an elderly man fell around 18ft.

The North East Ambulance Service was called to the scene at around 10am where the man had sustained head, arm and leg injuries.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service was called to assist, and a helicopter landed on the Burn football field.

The man was treated on the scene before being airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, which took approximately 20 minutes.

He was said to be stable on arrival.
