PREPARATIONS are well under way for one of the district’s biggest music festivals.

The Allen Valleys Folk Festival will return at the end of next month for the fifth time, with the community-led Allen Valleys Promotions Limited taking over the reins of the festival for the first time.

Music will come from the likes of Redesmouth’s Kathryn Tickell, the award-winning “bloke folk” trio Faustus and Bristol 12-piece Matuki, with performances at various venues in Allendale including the village hall and St Cuthbert’s Church.

The festival also includes the iconic ceremony that sees a wooden sculpture representing the Allendale wolf burnt to the ground. While the main music events will be held at indoor venues throughout the village, there will be various fringe events and workshops – including ukulele, needle-felting, dulcimer, harmonica and creative writing – held across the festival’s three days.

The festival will run from Friday, September 28 until Sunday, September 30.
