With coronavirus restrictions gradually easing and events beginning to take place following the Covid-19 pandemic, music fesitvals are finally set to make their return later this summer.

Whether it is seeing a number of headline acts play a sell-out show, a chance to find your next favourite band, or something a little bit different for all the family to enjoy, we’ve rounded up four events set to take place later this year.

This is Tomorrow – Exhibition Park, Newcastle – September 17-19

Billed as the North East’s biggest music festival, This is tomorrow is set to return in September following the coronavirus pandemic.

Taking place at Exhibition Park, the three-day event sees thousands of music fans descend on Exhibition Park in Newcastle and in 2021 the festival is set to see another fantastic line up.

On the opening day, the festival is set to be headlined by Irish Singer-Songwriter Dermot Kennedy, with Stockport indie band Blossoms also on the bill earlier in the evening.

Saturday sees Scottish superstar Gerry Cinnamon take the headline slot. The singer of songs such as ‘Belter’ and ‘Canter’ has seen an incredible rise through the music world and is also set to headline gigs at Hampden Park in Glasgow this summer too.

Indie fans are also in for a treat with long-time favourites The Kooks also on the day two line-up.

Day three sees another stunning list of performances set to take place, with superstar Sam Fender set to visit his homeland to close the festival on Sunday evening.

The Geordie superstar has previously sold out several concerts at the city’s Utilita Arena and is bound to be a fan favourite when the event takes place later this year.

Hardwick Festival, Hardwick Hall Sedgefield, County Durham – August 21-22

Hardwick Festival in County Durham has grown in size and popularity massively over the last few years, and the 2021 event is set to be another fine year for the event.

Taking place over four stages, there’s certainly going to be something for everyone at the festival in August, with a set of world-famous headliners also set to perform at the event.

On Saturday, music fans are in for a treat with Nile Rodgers and CHIC set to be the closing act of the day, with North East rockers Maximo Park also on the bill as part of the line-up.

The next day also sees a world-famous star take to the stage, with Rag n Bone Man set to head for County Durham.

The singer-song writer has recently released a new album and singles including All You Ever Wanted and Anywhere Away From Here featuring Pink, and will surely get the crowd singing along with his set of hits later this summer.

Hit The North – Newcastle – October 23

If finding your next favourite artist in a number of locations across Newcastle sounds more like your kind of idea for a dream event, Hit The North is a great choice.

Designed to be a place for emerging artists to perform to large crowds with music fans also being able to spot their new faviourte artists at the same time, Hit The North takes place in a number of locations across the city.

Past headliners have included heavy rockers Slaves, singer and guitarist Jake Bugg and band Jungle, with 2021 set to welcome Australian indie group DMA’s to the North East.

Taking place at locations including The Cluny, the 02 Academy and Head of Steam, the event is set to have something that can appeal to everyone.

Lindisfarne Festival – Beal Farm, Northumberland – September 2-5

Designed to be an enjoyable weekend for every single member of the crowd, Lindisfarne Festival is another event in the North East that has grown in size and popularity over the last few years.

The festival has fast become a fan favourite on the North East music calendar and in 2021 is set to see Brit Award winner Dizzee Rascal get the crowd going ‘Bonkers’ to some of his hit catalogue.

Past headliners include both Happy Mondays and Ocean Colour Scheme, with a wide variety of music genres all also being represented every time the Northumberland event takes place.

The festival is designed to be the perfect end of summer party and in 2021 the organisers are hoping it can finally make its return following the coronavirus pandemic.

Joining Dizzee Rascal as headliners for the event this year are Groove Armada and Craig Charles Funk and Soul Club.
