TRUNDLING out from the archives this week come some well known faces from one of Bellingham‘s more enduring organisations, the carpet bowls club.
On the left is the unforgettable stalwart of many village groups, Violet Matthews - always given her formal title of Miss Matthews, and also on the picture are other stalwarts including all-round sportsmen Matt Sisterson and Tom Arnup, along with senior council official on Bellingham RDC and Tynedale Council. Albert Smith.
The warped floor of the town hall forced the club to disembark for the middle school for a time, and a new outdoor rink was opened at the school by no less a personage than world champion David Bryant, of curly pipe fame.
